I received a yellow alert - should I head out aurora hunting?

Our yellow status indicates that we have detected “Minor geomagnetic activity”. We suggest that an aurora “Aurora may be visible by eye from Scotland and may be visible by camera from Scotland, northern England and Northern Ireland.”

However!

As with any alert level, your local conditions will need to be conducive to seeing an aurora (e.g. you will need clear, dark skies).

One other thing to note with the yellow status: a small rise in activity, that lasts for just one hour is unlikely to result in aurora being visible. If the alert level has been at yellow for several hours, or has reached an even higher level recently, an aurora may be visible from the north of the UK.

Good luck!
